Does Anybody Really Know What Timex It Is?

Hey, so I bought a new watch, thinking that it'll help me time my laps in the pool. I was happy to find a reasonably priced Timex Ironman in my neighborhood mega-store. I think it's fitting, although I think the Ironman name is a bit too intense for my wrist. I don't want people thinking I can swim all this and cycle all that and then do a marathon. I mean, come on. But it fits my wrist. And there's cool indiglow.

3/14/2013 - Swim

Indoor swim

My first group lesson! So fun, except I spent the entire class catching up with even the slowest group members...

Warm up
200 Swim
100 kick
100 Pull
100 drill

3x50 kick
6x100 swim

Total: 1250m. Pretty awesome. Can't wait to push it on Saturday.
There were times today that I really felt strong in the water, really pulling through it and getting my speed up. It was a pretty sweet feeling. I wondered what it would be like to swim like that over real distances... One day!

Mentally Registering

So I've been freaking myself out lately. Yesterday I was an inch away from registering for the 100 Mile Great Lakes Triathlon which takes place in October. It's the ideal race because it will be close to where I'll most likely be living in October and the date was far enough off to give me ample training time.

But it's 100 miles! 1 mile of swimming in an open-water race is intimidating. And I'm not sure I've even ran 15 miles before (I've ran a couple half-marathons). I knew things were getting bad when I started making up things to get nervous about - maybe residency will be too much work for me to train very hard, maybe I'll drown.

So I made up my mind to bank this race for next year. This year, I will do a number of sprints and maybe an olympic, which also has a 1 mile swim, later in the season. But I will keep an open mind as if I'm doing the 100 miler in October. If I feel like I'm on track, I'll register late. Either way, I'm excited!

3/5/2013 - Cycle and Run

Brick!
Cycle: 1 hour - indoors (spin cycle)
Run: 4.8 miles. 45 minutes.

This was my first brick. Beginning my run, I was amazed at how great I felt on my legs. It was like I was all warmed up and had that mid-run euphoric sense. This feeling remained until a little past half way and got worse until, by the end, my legs felt heavy. GREAT workout. Loved it!
